Crossing The Border

Welcome to Canada!

When planning your trip to Canada, there are a few things you need to keep in mind when crossing the International Canada/United States border.  For a comprehensive statement of border regulations, go to the Canadian Border Services Agency website.

Everyone is required to have a passport or equivalent identification to cross the Canada/United States border.  Please check well in advance to ensure that your passport is not expired as replacement time can be lengthy or expensive.

Youths under 16 are not required to have a passport for re-entry, however must have a government issued birth certificate.  Passports are of course still acceptable.  Youths under 16 travelling with only one of their parents, a guardian or chaperone, are recommended to have a notarized consent letter from both parents for crossing the border.

Each adult of legal age may have EITHER 40 ounces of Wine OR 40 ounces of Liquor OR 24 cans/bottles of beer.

When entering Canada, you must declare any and all firearms and/or weapons to the border officer.  You will need documents to prove that you are entitled to possess a firearm in Canada, and it must be transported in a safe manner.  Failure to declare your weapons could mean facing criminal charges.  We highly recommend that you call the Canadian Firearms Program well in advance of your trip to ensure that you have the documentation you need and understand the laws and restrictions.
